Sterling Knight by Camelot Guitars USA Prototype - Chameleon Paint #001 w/ HSC (2000s - Chameleon Iridescent)

CAMA CAMA CAMA CAMELOT CHAMELEON!

Here for sale is a one-of-a-kind guitar made by Camelot Guitars in Orlando, Fla. about 20 years ago. The company was pretty short lived and existed in the time before the boutique boom really...well...boomed. BUT, this is one cool guitar. The parts are all quality, DiMarzio pickups, Sperzel locking tuners, Floyd Rose - no locking nut, just the tremolo. I got this off of a new regular I like a lot, he is a nice guy with weird taste in gear, even by my standards. (Exhibit A - this guitar in this listing right now.)

The most striking feature is, of course, the chameleon paint job. It is pretty hard to accurately depict in photos, because it oscillates between like 5-7 colors and some hues in between depending on the way the light is hitting it. The main colors are metallic purple and green, but there are also shades of blue and teal. If you look at it lying on a flat plane from the sides, it shifts between shades of gold and bronze.

the other striking feature is the beautiful birdseye maple neck. It has a slim C neck and a satin finish, so it is fast and feels great, as well as being an absolute stunner.

Here is the listing copy from the original Reverb listing that my customer bought it from:

Hey there. I have a potential 1/1 electric guitar, built around 1999/2000 by Camelot Guitars. They were a company that never got off the ground, so there exists a few prototypes out there of this model, a stop tail version with a natural finish, and I think a few pieces of a signature artist model for Jeff Blando. I have below a quote from one of the luthiers associated with the company.

“Hi my name is Matt brooks. I stumbled across your post, as I was searching for anything on my old guitar company to show my wife. I was the designer/ luthier at Camelot. We were a very small operation working out of a small shop on Virginia ave in Orlando fl in 2002-2004. This was started as a project between myself, the other builder, and the owner. The bodies, which had a very unique design, were made from basswood and sometimes alder. The necks were Birdseye maple with different fretboards, sometimes rosewood, some maple. Each guitar was slightly different. We experimented with different paint jobs, and left some natural, only clear coating them. We used all high end parts from the Floyd to the Duncan pickups, even the nut was graphite and hand cut. What you have is a prototype that I hand built. We never made it to full production. Rocker Jeff blando came aboard briefly but only for publicity reasons. The owner was a bit of a shiester and never really had a good business plan. We built from scratch a good quality guitar but he never delivered on sales. He wound up owing both of us quite a bit of loot, and the company disbanded. If you have any further questions feel free to ask.”

Matt, if you find this listing as well, this is a really cool guitar. Good work.

If you are looking for the best conversation starter or an extremely playable ax that will make you stand out, you have come to the right place. American made, cool as a cucumber and all under $2k. What is not to love?

As always, we cleaned it up, polished the finish, flushed the electronics, changed the strings and set the action low and smooth. This guitar comes with a Hard Shell Case. As always I pack my guitars up tight and insure every package for the full purchase amount.

Got questions? Shoot me a message, I love nerding out with other gearheads!
