I have heard many Range Master clones, but I was never too impressed with the thin, vintage tone that I find mostly irrelevant in contemporary pedal setups. But I always enjoyed the character of the crunch it can deliver. My version includes the vintage tone, but a side switch can transform this pedal to a full range tone sweetener that you can place virtually anywhere in the pedal chain. In addition to carefully selecting the best sounding vintage transistor that I can find, the circuit also includes a pick up simulator consisting of a JFET buffer and an inductor. The simulator is not necessary for proper function, but after comparing it to the circuit without it, this one just sounds cleaner and bigger.
