A literal unicorn bass.
Here for sale is a hacked up Japanese made Fernandes bass from the 1980s - 1990s. When I got it, the neck was sunburst and the body was completely stripped. The electronics were a mess, etc. We COMPLETELY refinished and redid it. Kass and I got a little experimental with the finish, and this is a color we are calling "Unicornburst." Lavender edges, Aqua center - and a sparse silver glitter flake that is hard to get a picture of. We refinished the neck in black satin so it feels silky smooth to play.
The pickup is the original MIJ Fernades pickup. The wiring is all redone, modern high performance. It is a really full and hot pickup - works well with the setup!
The bridge is original, but it was missing the saddle pieces, so I hand-carved new ones out of bone. We also added a new bone nut and added flatwound strings, so this bass has a really thumpy and low end heavy. It really nails that Hofner-esque or EB-esque thump tone. Perfect for blues, jazz, indie, rock. The all-bone connections make it a super resonant bass that pairs well with the flatwounds.
It plays GREAT, honestly super remarkable how much of a player it is. Frets have been leveled and rounded, so the neck feels great and plays true up the neck. The bridge is able to be intonated, so it intonates true up the neck.
All in all, this is a long term project that me and my team worked on, and it came out really cool. I know it will be the perfect bass for someone. As always, we cleaned it up, polished the finish, flushed the electronics, changed the strings and set the action low and smooth. This guitar has a padded gig bag, but I pack my guitars up tight and insure every package for the full purchase amount.
