Gibson Country Western Acoustic Guitar *NARROW NUT* w/ HSC (1968 - Natural)

Model: 1968 Gibson Country Western

Finish: Natural

Set-up & Playability: Action is nice and low. It plays and sounds amazing. The neck is a slim C with a very narrow 1.51" nut width (yes, you read that right - no, that is not a typo). The incredibly skinny neck makes this guitar perfect for the smaller-handed player that might have found other Gibsons to be prohibitive with their chunky necks. Despite me being a medium husky to husky sized man with larger hands, I still find it incredibly easy (and a lot of fun) to play.

Case: Vintage Hardshell

Notes: This guitar is STUNNING. I rarely get vintage guitars that have the jaw-dropping factor that this one does. It came to me from an older gentleman who is a retired square dancer for the Grand Ole Opry - he is a really, REALLY funny fella with a nice guitar collection and a lot of stories to tell.

When he brought it in, it needed some work: Bridge was lifting, so I resealed that. The frets were worn and divoted, so I leveled and recrowned them. I would say the frets are at about half life. They have 1-2 good level and recrowns left. There was some breaking and cracking between the soundhole and the fretboard, so I did some advanced clamping and gluing and got that sorted out. You can see it if you get right on it, but it is totally structurally solid. After all of that, we gave the guitar a good conditioning and setup.

AGAIN: This guitar has the skinniest neck I have ever seen on a vintage Gibson. The nut width is just barely north of an inch and a half. Super skinny with a slim C neck. The back of the headstock has a "2" above the serial which signifies that this guitar was a "factory second." I am going to guess that the reason it was "seconded" is because of the wildly thinner-than-usual nut width.

But ALSO AGAIN - I cannot reiterate how little it matters. I usually dislike skinny necks and I had a blast playing this thing, it is a fantastic guitar. The guitar also comes with the ivoroid saddle.

As always, we cleaned it up, polished the finish, flushed the electronics, changed the strings, performed all routine maintenance and set the action low and smooth. All of our packages are packed tight enough to survive the apocalypse and we insure every parcel for the full purchase amount.

Worth noting: this guitar comes from a time with far less strict smoking social norms, so the case bares the faint odor of decades-old nicotine. I have sanitized the case per my own method using three different cleaner / deodorizers, but the faint smell remains. Kinda just part of the guitar now in my opinion.

Got questions? Shoot me a message, I love nerding out with other gearheads!
